FILM & PROTEST

Im dritten Jahr unserer Reihe zu Protestbewegungen im Film widmen wir uns Werken, die sich auch über dokumentarische Ansätze hinaus bewegen. Wir kontextualisieren Filme aus dem Sudan, Indien, Iran und Rumänien, die politische Bewegungen mit intimen persönlichen Geschichten verknüpfen und kritische Positionen mit dokumentarischem Material in semi-fiktionaler Form abbilden. Auch der klassische Spielfilm findet sich diesmal im Programm. Mit zwei der sogenannten DEFA-Verbotsfilme, die sich kritisch mit der Entwicklung der DDR auseinandersetzten und im Rahmen einer umfassenden kulturpolitischen Zäsur auf dem 11. Plenum des Zentralkomitees der SED 1965 verboten wurden.

In the third year of our series on protest movements in film, we are devoting ourselves to works that move beyond documentary approaches. We contextualize films from India, Iran and Romania that link political movements with intimate personal stories and depict critical positions with documentary material in semi-fictional form. This year's program also includes classic feature films. With two of the so-called DEFA banned films, which critically examined the development of the GDR and were banned at the 11th Plenum of the Central Committee of the SED in 1965 as part of a comprehensive cultural-political caesura.
