Morricone hatte eben die beiden ersten Filme von Sergio Leones Dollar-Trilogie bearbeitet, als er die Anfrage Bellocchios (der später zu den unkonformistischsten Regisseuren Italiens zählen wird) akzeptierte, da er dessen radikalen Drang im Experiment schätzte und unterstützen wollte. Durch das Verschieben zum Geschehen gehörender Geräusche und Klänge auf die Soundebene ermöglicht er der Klangebene ein eigenes Verhältnis zum Geschehen.

Morricone had just edited the first two films of Sergio Leone's Dollar Trilogy when he accepted Bellocchio's request (who will later be one of the most non-conformist directors in Italy), as he appreciated and wanted to support his radical urge to experiment. By shifting noises and sounds that belong to the action to the sound level, he enables the sound level to have its own relationship to the action. (Italian with English subtitles)
