THE MAN WITHOUT A WORLD wird dem legendären (und fiktiven) sowjetischen Regisseur der 1920er Jahre Jewgeni Antinow zugeschrieben. Tatsächlich ist Antinow selbst eine Schöpfung der weltbekannten Künstlerin Eleanor Antin. Das bewegende Melodrama spielt in einem typischen Schtetl (Dorf) in Polen. Der dortige Kampf der Jüd*innen gegen Armut und Rassenhass wird durch ihre eigene Spaltung in verschiedene verfeindete politische Fraktionen erschwert. Während die Jüd*innen des Schtetls ihrer Liebe und Religion sowie ihren Geschäften und Träumen nachgehen, ist der Engel des Todes immer in ihrer Nähe ...

Die Geigeri und Komponistin Alicia Svigals ist die weltweit führende Klezmer-Geigerin und Gründerin der mit einem Grammy ausgezeichneten Klezmatics.  Sie ist mit dem Geiger Itzhak Perlman aufgetreten und hat für ihn komponiert. Außerdem hat sie mit dem Kronos Quartett, den Dramatikern Tony Kushner und Eve Ensler, dem Dichter Allen Ginsburg, Robert Plant und Jimmy Page von Led Zeppelin, Debbie Friedman und Chava Albershteyn zusammengearbeitet.  Im Mai 2023 wurde Svigals die Ehrendoktorwürde des Jüdischen Theologischen Seminars für "außergewöhnliche Beiträge zur Kunst und zum jüdischen Leben" verliehen.  Svigals erhielt einen Auftrag der Foundation for Jewish Culture für ihre Originalmusik zum Film The Yellow Ticket von 1918 und ist MacDowell-Stipendiatin.  Ihre CD Fidl (1996) erweckte die Klezmer-Fiedel-Tradition wieder zum Leben. Ihre neueste CD ist Beregovski Suite: Klezmer Reimagined, mit dem Jazzpianisten Uli Geissendoerfer - eine originelle Interpretation längst vergessener jüdischer Musik aus der Ukraine.

Der Pianist/Komponist Donald Sosin wuchs in Rye, New York und München auf. Sosin erhielt den Lifetime Achievement Award des Denver Silent Film Festivals und den Preis für die beste Original-Filmmusik des Mystic Film Festivals 2022. Seine Partituren für Stummfilme hat er - oft zusammen mit seiner Frau, der Sängerin und Perkussionistin Joanna Seaton - im Lincoln Center, im MoMA, im BAM, in der National Gallery, bei großen Filmfestivals in New York, San Francisco, Telluride, Hollywood, Yorkshire, Pordenone, Bologna, Shanghai, Bangkok, Berlin, Wien, Moskau und Jecheon, Südkorea, sowie an vielen Hochschulen aufgeführt. Er hat mit Alexander Payne, Isabella Rossellini, Dick Hyman, Jonathan Tunick, Comden und Green, Martin Charnin, Mitch Leigh und Cy Coleman zusammengearbeitet und für Mikhael Baryshnikov, Mary Travers, Marni Nixon, Howie Mandel, Geula Gill und viele andere gespielt. Er macht Aufnahmen für Criterion, Kino, Milestone, Flicker Alley und europäische Labels, und seine Partituren sind häufig auf TCM zu hören. Er hat Aufträge vom MoMA, EYE Amsterdam, der Deutschen Kinemathek, L'Immagine Ritrovata, dem Chicago Symphony Chorus, dem San Francisco Chamber Orchestra und dem Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra erhalten.
 

THE MAN WITHOUT A WORLD is attributed to the legendary (and fictional) Soviet director of the 1920s Yevgeny Antinov. In fact, Antinov himself is a creation of world-renowned artist Eleanor Antin. The moving melodrama is set in a typical shtetl (village) in Poland. The Jews' struggle there against poverty and racial hatred is complicated by their own division into various hostile political groups. While the Jews of the shtetl pursue their love and religion as well as their business and dreams, the angel of death is always close to them ...

Alicia Svigals and Donald Sosin have been bringing audiences to their feet throughout the US and Europe with their unique and stirring violin and piano scores for Jewish-themed silent films. Sosin is one of the world’s top silent film musicians, and Svigals is the world's leading klezmer violinist and a founder of the Grammy-winning Klezmatics.

Violinist/composer Alicia Svigals is the world's leading klezmer fiddler and a founder of the Grammy-winning Klezmatics.  She has performed with and written for violinist Itzhak Perlman, and has worked with the the Kronos Quartet, playwrights Tony Kushner and Eve Ensler, poet Allen Ginsburg, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Debbie Friedman and Chava Albershteyn.  In May 2023, Svigals was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters by the Jewish Theological Seminary for “extraordinary contributions to the arts and Jewish life.”  Svigals was awarded a Foundation for Jewish Culture commission for her original score to the 1918 film The Yellow Ticket, and is a MacDowell fellow.  Her CD Fidl (1996) reawakened klezmer fiddle tradition. Her newest CD is Beregovski Suite: Klezmer Reimagined, with jazz pianist Uli Geissendoerfer—an original take on long-lost Jewish music from Ukraine.

He has performed his scores for silent films, often with his wife, singer/percussionist Joanna Seaton, at Lincoln Center, MoMA, BAM, the National Gallery, at major film festivals in New York, San Francisco, Telluride, Hollywood, Yorkshire, Pordenone, Bologna, Shanghai, Bangkok, Berlin, Vienna, Moscow, and Jecheon, South Korea and many college campuses. He has worked with Alexander Payne, Isabella Rossellini, Dick Hyman, Jonathan Tunick, Comden and Green, Martin Charnin, Mitch Leigh, and Cy Coleman, and has played for Mikhael Baryshnikov, Mary Travers, Marni Nixon, Howie Mandel, Geula Gill, and many others. He records for Criterion, Kino, Milestone, Flicker Alley and European labels, and his scores are heard frequently on TCM.
