A-MAL-A-MALGAM

Mit Getreiden und Geschichten lädt Yasmeen Al-Qaisi uns ein, das Fasten zu brechen und Leben in unsere Bäuche aufzunehmen. a-mal-a-malgham ist eine arabisch-englische Wortschöpfung. Sie steht zugleich für eine Masse (الملغم al-malgham, Amalgam) und eine Mischung aus Hoffnung (أمل amal). Durch das gemeinsame Mahl rufen wir die Süße von Blumen, Früchten und Gewürzen an, als Schutz gegen jene zerstörerischen Reinheitsansprüche der Politik, die unsere Umwelten beherrschen. Yasmeen ruft das Wissen und die Kraft unserer Großmütter und Getreide-Mütter auf und lädt die Gäste dazu ein, ihre ursprünglichsten Werkzeuge, ihre Hände, zu nutzen und Absichten wie Wünsche in den gemeinsamen Akt des Essens einzubringen. Rezeptlos, pan-kulinarisch, weltumspannend. Die Arbeit hatte ihre Premiere bei der Abschlussveranstaltung von Dissident Paths in Berlin.

Al-Qaisi invites us to break fast with daily mash for hope, assortments of grains and stories meant to nutritiously welcome life into our bellies. a-mal-a-malgham is an Arabic-English word construction that stands for a mass (الملغم al-malgham, amalgam), a mixture of hope (أمل amal). We will invoke protection of the sweetness of flowers, fruits and spices against destructive “purity” – claiming politics that dominate our environments. Yasmeen will invoke the knowledge and power of our grandmothers and grain-mothers, inviting the guests to use their hands, their original tools, and put intention, make wishes into the act of eating together pan-culinary-world recipe-less dishes. Premiered in the closing event of the project Dissident Paths.
