NEPTUNE FROST

Matalusa flieht aus der Coltan-Mine, wo er für die Herstellung von Handys nach Mineralien graben muss und entkommt in die Hügel von Burundi zu einem antikolonialistischen Hacker*innen-Kollektiv. Hier trifft er auf Neptune, eine*n intersexuelle*n Hacker*in. Von einer überirdisch wirkenden Elektroschrott-Müllhalde aus versuchen sie, das autoritäre Regime zu stürzen, das die natürlichen Ressourcen der Region – und deren Menschen – ausbeutet.

Die multidisziplinären Künstler*innen aus Ruanda und Burundi übersetzen postkoloniale und ökofeministische Ideen in visuell und musikalisch überwältigende Szenen voll beeindruckender Kostüme, Materialien, Set-pieces und Design. In ihrem queeren Sci-Fi-Punk-Musical verknüpfen sie die reale mit der digitalen Welt und fordern zukunftsgerichtet dazu auf, Technologie für progressive politische Zwecke zu nutzen.

Matalusa flees the coltan mine where he is forced to dig up minerals for cell phones and escapes into the hills of Burundi to join an anti-colonial hacking collective, where he meets the intersexual hacker Neptune. Operating from an e-waste dump, they seek to overthrow the authoritarian regime that is exploiting the region's natural resources – and its people. Realized with a cast and crew from Rwanda and Burundi, the queer sci-fi punk musical deals with pressing issues of our time. In their brightly colored afro-futuristic vision, the multidisciplinary artists combine a visually and musically breathtaking melange of costumes and sets, ideas and songs.
