Between God and I

Karen ist eine muslimische, unabhängige junge Frau, die sich auf der Ilha de Moçambique für die Scharia einsetzt, aber voller Zweifel und Widersprüche in Bezug auf ihre Identität und die Gemeinschaft ist, in der sie lebt.
Auf der historisch multikulturellen Insel mit tief verwurzelten Traditionen existiert der Islam bisher harmonisch mit anderen Religionen zusammen. Aber Karens „reiner Islam“ duldet die alten kulturellen Praktiken und Traditionen nicht.
Durch den intimen Einblick in Karens Leben wirft BETWEEN GOD AND I ein Licht auf das Leben junger Frauen, die radikale religiöse Entscheidungen treffen, und verortet deren Auswirkungen in einem breiteren Kontext religiöser Konflikte.

Karen is a Muslim independent young woman who advocates for Sharia on the diverse Ilha de Moçambique but is filled with doubts and contradictions about her identity and the community she lives in. In her historical multicultural Island with deeply rooted traditions, a moderate Islam has so far harmoniously coexisted with other religions. But Karen`s “pure Islam” doesn`t tolerate the old cultural practices and traditions. Through an intimate glimpse of Karen`s life, BETWEEN GOD AND I, sheds light into the humanity of young women who are making radical religious choices and its implications in a broader context of religious conflicts.
